Research, communication and service across legal and public-facing settings.
Worked in a group of three on a contemporary legal issue assigned at random. We researched and wrote a paper, then delivered a 60-minute presentation to more than 15 solicitors and advocates from different practice areas. We made complex findings clear to an audience with varied expertise and responded to their questions.

Member of the Society of Writers to His Majesty’s Signet, engaging with Scotland’s legal profession and its opportunities for students.
I actively explore commercial law by attending law firm networking events and online seminars on financial restructuring and insolvency, commercial litigation, debt finance and private equity. Hearing from practitioners helps me understand how these areas work in practice and where I could contribute.
Support customers on tills and self-checkout, handle transactions and returns, replenish stock and keep service moving during busy periods. Known for friendly, attentive service and for going the extra mile when a customer needs help.
Advised customers on products and safety standards, managed bookings and stock, and handled confidential customer information.
Helped pupils aged 12–16 build confidence, understand difficult topics and develop practical exam technique through tailored explanations and encouragement.
Personal statement
I am a fourth-year Scots Law student at the University of Edinburgh and the first in my family to attend university. I am actively seeking law opportunities where I can develop my legal skills and contribute to a team. My experience as a WS Society Summer Scholar strengthened my ability to research unfamiliar law, write clearly and present findings to solicitors and advocates across different practice areas. Alongside my studies, working at Aldi has taught me to stay organised under pressure, work closely with others and give thoughtful service to customers. I am especially interested in commercial law and how legal advice helps people and businesses make practical decisions.
My next steps towards qualifying as a solicitor.
After graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2027, I plan to complete the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice and secure a solicitor traineeship. I hope to build a career in commercial law, combining my interest in business with practical legal work.
